Deb Northop, the very first Beeing Your Best award winner, was recognized January 2003 for the outstanding work she has done organizing CLC’s annual Christmas parties, especially the 2002 party.  Deb has taken kitchen duty for several years in a row.  The “duty” includes planning the menu, purchasing the food, coordinating all the supplies, the cooks, the servers, and the 1001 other things that have to be done to feed 200 + people. In 2002 she did it in spite of being and ill and needing to be in bed.

Deb, you are truly one of a kind.

Jackie Rieves also received her award in January 2003 for actions she took in October 2002.  Jackie went WAY above and beyond the call of duty to console the people she serves when one of their housemates died suddenly.  Jackie supported each person in such a way that that each one felt her care and concern in a very personal way.  She made a significant difference in their lives at a very difficult time.

Jackie, you’re the best.

L to R: Jan Hannah, “Beeing Your Best” Award winner Lydia Moon, Bud E. and Lydia’s coworker, Ama Lutrell. Lydia holds the signature “This Bud’s For You” bud vase and roses, a baby Bud E., bouquet of balloons, Bit-O-Honey candy, and her award certificate and $25 gift certificate to a restaurant of her choice. Lydia and her family assured one of the men served by CLC sat with them at church on Sunday mornings. If it were not for the Moon's, he would not have had an opportunity for this activity.

LYDIA, THANKS FOR SHARING YOUR SUNDAYS AND YOUR FAMILY!

Violet Harper not only has her hands full now, but she REALLY had her hands full in August 2003. It was on a trip with 15 of the people serve that Violet gave them her best. When the passengers complained of smelling smoke, Violet pulled to the roadside, removed everyone from the van, and the stood in awe as the van burst into flames. Her quick thinking and attentiveness to her passengers literally saved their lives.

Violet your our HERO!

Wednesday, January 28, 2004 our favorite volunteer, Doris Startt was recognized with a visit from Bud E. for her love, kindness, generosity and devotion over many years of faithful service as a beloved volunteer. As most of you know, Doris (a.k.a. Deb’s Mom) does such mundane things as making copies for office staff to such exciting things as accompanying our team to all the Special Olympics events. She has: bopped the bop at our sock hops, helped flipped burgers, slung potato salad, and divvied up desserts at all our parties and activities. And she has opened her home and her heart to one of the people we serve.

THANKS DORIS, DON'T KNOW WHAT WE WOULD DO WITHOUT YOU!

Wednesday, January 21 when Jackie Tidwell, Procurement Specialist for COI was honored. Jackie was recognized not only for the love and respect she shows to everyone, but for assuring that the work environment at COI is enjoyable, energizing and positive for both coworkers and the people she serves, giving unconditional help and support to her coworkers as well as the people she serves, securing recognition for COI from the business/professional community, going above an beyond her job duties to secure a volunteer placement at the Joshua library for one of the people she serves, to the point that she gave up Saturday mornings to make sure that position got off to a good start, and being thoughtful, dedicated, and having a “make a difference attitude”.

THANKS, JACKIE!

Delores is one in a million. When CLC island Grove went through several staff changes in March and April 2004, Delores stepped in to cover vacancies , trained new staff for Island Grove, Trained other staff from other facilities who transferred to Island Grove, and continued with all her other duties. Her willingness to go above and beyond without ever voicing a complaint merits our praise, appreciation, and wonder.

DELORES YOUR ONE IN A MILLION!

Roxann's award trailed the event for which she was recognized by some 6 to 8 months. But, the gratitude we felt was just a strong now as it was when she was nominated. Roxann, along with Deb Northrop worked many hours to save CLC several thousand dollars in overtime by working out a schedule for the State Special Olympics Fall Classic which called for a minimum of overtime from the staff. The fact that those dollars were saved makes it more likely everyone can participate in the State Meet this year.

THANKS! ROXANN FOR ALL THE EXTRA HARD WORK!
